How to Rename a Google Cloud Platform Project

Renaming a Google Cloud Platform project involves updating the project name and, if necessary, the project’s billing account name. You cannot change the project ID or the project number.

Follow to below steps to rename a Google cloud platform project.

1. Go to the Google Cloud Console: https://console.cloud.google.com/
2. Sign in with your Google account if you haven’t already.
3. In the top-right corner of the page, click on the project dropdown menu to select the project you want to rename.
4. Click on the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner of the page.
5. Scroll to the “IAM & Admin” section and click “Settings.”
6. In the “Settings” page, you will find the “Project Name” field in the “General” tab.
7. You can edit that project name text box and rename it whatever you want.
8. Enter the new project name and click on the “Save” button.

Please note that changing the project name won’t affect any resources, services, or billing associated with the project.

If you want to update the billing account name, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Google Cloud Console: https://console.cloud.google.com/
2. Sign in with your Google account if you haven’t already.
3. Click on the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner of the page.
4. Scroll down to the “Billing” section and click “Billing.”
5. On the “Billing” page, you will see your billing account name under “Billing account.”
6. Click on the “Manage billing accounts” link.
7. Find the billing account associated with the project you want to rename and click on the billing account name.
8. On the “Account Management” page, click the “Edit” button (pencil icon) next to the “Account Name” field.
9. Enter the new account name and click on the “Save” button.

Following these steps, you can rename your Google Cloud Platform project and update the billing account name if necessary. Remember, this will only update the display name, and the project ID and number will remain the same.
